Thilanka Abeywardena
Azure Infrastructure Marketing Lead, Asia CMO
Microsoft
International Marketing professional with 18 years of experience in strategic marketing management specializing in IT, telecom and digital sectors and geographic exposure across Asian and Middle Eastern markets. Currently she is the integrated marketing lead for Microsoft Azure infrastructure for the Asia region. Thilanka won the FY23 Microsoft Platinum Club Award which is a rare and premiere global recognition for employees. Prior to this role, she held several other roles at Microsoft in the ASEAN region and emerging markets and she was the former Head of Marketing at Etisalat Lanka (later acquired by Hutchinson).
In 2021, she got elected as the first woman President of the national body for marketing in Sri Lanka – SLIM. She was recognized as the “Career Role Model of the Year – 2021” by Women in Management in collaboration with IFC and Australian government at the Women Top 50 – Professional & Career Women Awards. She also holds multiple marketing awards under her belt for the work in Asia including Effie, PR Awards Asia, Brand Excellence and Manthan Awards.
She holds an MBA (UK), BSc Special (Hons) degree in IT and has completed postgraduate diploma in marketing at Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and has completed the executive education program, Modern Marketing with Distinction from Kellogg School of Management.
Mother to a little girl and enjoys traveling, singing, movies and music during leisure time.
